Hi

I have a new iMac intel core 2 duo and I'm running Maya and UVLayout through a virtual PC type of software called VMWare Fusion Maya works fine. UVlayout installed OK and VMWare Fusion sees the dongle but the it doesn't seem to recognize it and therefore will not connect it.

It see it as: aladdin knowledge HASP HL 2.16

I know the dongle is fine because I just tested it on a PC and I know the USB port is working in this setup through VMWare Fusion because I just tested a Printer.

So why cant VMWare Fusion connect the dongle?

If I can get it to connect I'm sure UV Layout will have no problem activating the key

Any body else had a similar problem?

Is there a solution by still using VMWare Fusion Virtual Machine

thanks

Wayne

"So why cant VMWare Fusion connect the dongle?"

I'm checking with my dongle suppliers to see if they support Fusion or not.

Does my licensing GUI thing give you an Ether ID? I can generate a temp license for that if you want to see if UVLayout runs or not.

Temp license would be good for now

The Ether ID it gives me in license manager is 2956f75c

Thanks

Temp license for that Ether ID has been emailed.

Oh, and here's a reply from the dongle tech support people ...

Quote:
Your customer needs to have the HASP HL driver installed in the host operating system. If it's not already, then this is the problem.

Since fusion is a Windows emulator for Macintosh, he will need the appropriate Mac driver. You can download these drivers from http://www.aladdin.com/support/hasp/vendor.aspx

Fingers crossed!

Hi Phil

The temp key works fine...so no worries there!

Ive installed the Software HDD_Installer_ MacOSX.dmg as per the link above but I still can't get the key connected...even thought Windows running through VMware Fusion sees the key!

Do you know if anybody else is running through a similar setup ie through parallels?

This maybe an alternative I would consider

Thanks

"The temp key works fine...so no worries there!"

I even had my doubts about that working, so thats excellent news!

" but I still can't get the key connected..."

OK, I'll email some info on further diagnostics tests you can run. It'll maybe tell us if theres still a driver problem, or if its a problem in UVLayout itself.

"Do you know if anybody else is running through a similar setup"

No, you are the first I know of. One of these days I'll bite the bullet and will get a mac here at headus, then I'll be able to a) test UVLayout under Fusion etal. and b) start work on a native port.

Just wanted to note that I've got the same issue here.
Just downloaded the newest build of UV Layout and
trying to run through Fusion- fusion sees the dongle
but it doesn't seem to want to take.

System specs:
Fusion 1.1.2 / Windows XP Professional
MacPro Dual QuadCore Xeon 2.8
Leopard 10.5.2

One user reported success with his dongle vs Fusion ...

Hopefully that helps!

Yeah actually it was after reading that post I decided
to get Fusion to run UVLayout at home.

I've got the dongle drivers installed on both systems,
When I select it through Fusion the light on the dongle
turns off and back on once, the 'New Hardware' dialog
showed up - but UV Layout is still displaying
Dongle: not found.

I will keep working with it and post any progress here.

Just a brief update:
I still haven't gotten the UVLayout HASP to
work at all in my XPsp2 install on Fusion.

I've now tried Fusion 1.1.1, 1.1.2, and am
currently working under the 2b1 version.

Of interest, I tried plugging in my HASP
key for BiaS Peak - and was able to
connect it. Shows up as HASP HL 3.21.
I don't know what the difference is between
this HASP and the v2.16 HASP I have
for UVLayout, but it seems to be behaving
a little better...

still at it-

--edit--

I decided to give it a shot under parallels as opposed to fusion,
who knows - maybe they hardware drivers are different right?
when I insert the dongle under parallels I get an error window
saying the dongle is in use by another application. I couldn't
identify the process under Activity Monitor. Instead I downloaded
the HASP drivers for OS X from aladdin (google HASP OS X)
and instead of installing them I uninstalled them. Now everything
works fine, in both Parallels and Fusion the dongle connects
and stays connected.

I do have a HASP-enabled app on OS X (Peak Pro) but I
don't use it nearly as much. That would be the main consideration
on this workaround. If you're using bootcamp it wont be an
issue, but if you're using a dual-OS environment this is a
real + working solution.

Many thanks for sharing your experience. It seems like getting the HASP dongles to work under the virtual machines is a bit of a black art, but is at least possible. We do still plan to develop a native OSX port though, and hope that'll happen before the end of the year.
