Is there a revised estimate of the release date for the full version?

I'm thinking of buying before release of the full version, but I'm also thinking of buying a new machine and I don't want to find my software is locked to an old computer.

I thought about the 6 monthly option, but I'm a bit wary of that. What happens if your business folds and my 6 monthly temporary license runs out? I understand the need to protect yourself against piracy, but I have to say the whole dongle/ether locked thing is a real turn off. Permanently tying software to a piece of hardware, whether it's a dongle or an ethernet card, makes me really hesitant to buy it.

Hi ajax, according to your idea, alot of ppl would not have purchased 3d studio max/Lightwave/maya etc etc. Dongles/wibukeys/ etc etc have always been cracked/patched/keygenned.

What ill say is: Buy it. Period.
Phil has been around as far as I know for atleast 8 years. Hes very successful, very prompt with updates/issue fixing etc.
Prime example..I own a key. If Phil went down/company died/ god forbid I never got a perm key, I could ethically/unethically make my key work with any ether based PCI card.

But then again, ive made my purchase, its on record, im legal, etc etc. In away I have the right to make my key work.

If you have issues with the lic system Phil chooses to use then by all means you have the right not to purchase.

I know you and Billy home and Moe personally and atleast thru name.

Dude, Dongle/Ether/serial/ whatever. This purchase would be worth it period.

Phil aint goin down any time soon bro. Cheers Smile

Well, a lot of people don't buy max/lightwave/maya etc. I don't own any of them. Most people I know don't own any of them. And if dongles etc have always been cracked etc, then what's the point of them anyway?

Yeah, whatever. I'm just giving Phil my feedback as a potential customer, which is that I would have purchased ages ago if I weren't worried about tieing the software to a particular computer that I'm likely to replace in the nearish future.

Its great software but it's also a very specialised tool and I know I wouldn't get enough use out of it to justify buying it twice - especially when buying it just once will cost me more than almost any single piece of 3D software I own, most of which have a vastly wider range of uses and can fairly easily be moved to a new computer when necessary and also come with much more than a year's worth of support.

I found Phil's reply reassuring. I'll most likely buy sometime before next March. But I would have bought ages ago if the licensing scheme didn't make the whole thing feel like it comes with a use by date.

On Buy now page I still see that Ether license payment method. May I use it and after change to hobbyist? How it works?

Ether licenses wont be available once UVLayout is released, but all existing customers with them will of course continue to be supported. They are effectively Pro licenses, so the only upgrade available will be from Ether to Dongle, not from Ether to Hobbyist. There's not that much difference between the current Ether price ($175) and the future Hobbyist price ($200), so if you intend to get the Hobbyist version I'd just wait until the release, and continue to use the free Beta licenses in the meantime.

Phil

So is the $175 price if we buy it now, the hobbyist price? I'm confused, I just bought it for 175 and want to be sure I got the right one. Thanks

If you buy an Ether license now, you get a full Professional license.
