[prev] Slicing Introduction [next]

In pre-v2 versions of CySlice, slicing was the method used to help build NURBS surfaces from polymeshes - that's where the CySlice name comes from.

With the introduction of the Networks tool in v2.0, its more than likely that many users will now never use the original Slicing tools. But, there are still some who might, and so the Slicing tools are included in the current CySlice distribution.

To activate the Slicing tools, click on the Slicing button in the main CySlice window.

View Modes

When Slicing is active, the mouse is in one of three different modes: View, Draw or Pick, and you work on one of three layers: Work, Temp or Out (see Figure 249).

To change the view at any time, the View mouse action must be selected. If Pick or Draw is active, a quick way to temporarily activate the View action is to hold down the <Alt> key. Release the <Alt> key and you'll be returned to the previous Pick or Draw mouse action.

Layers

Work
You usually do all your slicing in the work layer. When viewing the work layer you can also see slices that have been put in the out layer, but only faintly. Typing <1> is a quick way of selecting this layer.

Temp
Any slices that you don't need now, but want to save for later, you would put in the temp layer. Unless you happen to be viewing the temp layer, slices put in the temp layer are hidden. Typing <2> is a quick way of selecting this layer.

Out
Any slices that you want to save should be put in the out layer. And once saved, you could happily delete them. Typing <3> is a quick way of selecting this layer.
