If you take these points into consideration, the scanning process will be
easier, quicker and less costly.
Laser scanners do not cope well with reflective surfaces.
A matting material can be applied in those cases where colour information is not
as
important as geometry. If painting models, use matt paints, preferably white.
Dark colored surfaces are not ideal.
We will get better results if you can
use a lighter tone. This doesn't exactly exclude
the scanning of dark objects, but the scan
post processing time may be lengthened, and so the cost
may be higher.
Laser scanners doesn't cope well with hair or fur.
A better surface can be achieved if hair is dusted with cornflour. The dusting in
combination with hair restoration software tools assures very good hair results.
But remember, if you are visiting us for a head scan, be prepared to be dusted.
The object should be able to fit inside a 40cm dia., 1m high cylinder.
Beyond these dimensions a full 3D model, requiring scanning from all sides,
would need to be split into smaller pieces.
However, if you only want a a partial 3D scan from one side of the object, the size
restriction isn't so strict; it should be able to fit inside a 1m long, 30cm deep,
1m high volume.
It may be necessary to cut the model.
To see hidden surfaces, and to scan
a large object, it may be necessary for us to dismantle the model. We prefer to have
your
permission to do whatever is necessary to achieve the best scanning results.
